A Modern New Hire Training Plan and Experience

THE COMPANY: NAVY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION

Navy Federal Credit Union is the largest natural member (or retail) credit union in the United States with over $91.8 billion USD in assets and 8.1 million members. Navy Federal’s mission is to serve and enrich the lives of those in the military community. The company has over 15,000 employees and 300 locations. They were founded in 1933 and are headquartered in Vienna, Virginia.

THE CHALLENGE

  • Support existing employees with the transition to the new system

  • Improve the quality of the training experience for new hires and make the training experience more consistent between existing and new branches

  • L&D had little direct control of the project. Scope, plan and manage development were managed as a single, large-scale technology project.

  • In the large-scale project, little time was set aside for training design and development; training had to be developed in parallel with system development and testing activities.

  • Navy Federal wanted a hybrid development team consisting of Navy Federal’s internal L&D resources and Actio’s performance consulting, project management, and content development team.
